Chico Fernandez

Drums

Paul 'Chico' Fernandez was born in Toronto and began playing drums at the age of three! He studied piano when he was eight and later reconnected with the drums, which he played in local bands both live and in the recording studios. He later moved to Los Angeles where he opened a music teaching studio. That studio became Santa Monica Music Center and as the studio expanded into a music store, Chico took on more than just drum lines and in fact was the first Gibson dealer in west Santa Monica. With the help of his brother and daughter, Chico expanded to a second location called Culver City Music Center, which also has a strong music lesson program.

Cynthia Speer

Cynthia Speer

Piano, Voice

Cynthia Speer (Cindy) grew up in the Deep South of Louisiana and Mississippi.  Playing piano since age 4 and singing publicly since her teenage years, she is happy to bring her experience to children of all ages to inspire and educate them in music.  She performed, playing solo piano and singing, as well as singing with Big Bands and smaller groups (Blues and Jazz Standards), in Jackson Mississippi, Buena Vista Colorado, then here in Los Angeles since the mid 1980’s.  One of her first gigs in LA was playing solo piano and singing at the Sidewalk Cafe’ in Venice Beach, down the street from where she lived at that time.

Cindy has performed at Weddings, Private Parties, Restaurants and Nightclubs in and around Los Angeles for the past 35 years, and has done many jazz gigs with Lana’s Dad, and founder of Santa Monica Music, Chico Fernandez.  She began teaching in 2001 and is happy to be inspiring children of all ages in their piano, preschool music and vocal lessons.

Working on an original project of a different genre with a band that she co-founded, is a huge passion for Cindy currently.  You will hear her keyboards and singing if you visit akashicalchemy.bandcamp.com. Once on the site, if the band name doesn’t come up right away, you can search for the “Artist” Akashic Alchemy.  A good tune to start with is “Sublime”.   Her name in the band is Ahnaleya.   Let us all remember...Music Heals!
