Santa Monica business, once hit by looters, now helps build relationships between youth and police

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KABC) — The looting and violence following the death of George Floyd almost one year ago devastated parts of the city of Santa Monica– and strained the relationship between the community and the city’s police department.

“As an organization, as a police department we were hurting. We felt that we let our community down and so shortly after that we were speaking to some of the business owners to find out what we can do to help out and we identified this business as one that we felt we failed,” said Sgt. Gerardo Leyva of the Santa Monica Police Department.

SMMC’s Lana Negrete Interviewed for NAMM

Lana Negrete grew up in her father’s music store and always had a passion for music and the arts, but she wasn’t sure if music retail was for her. Everything changed when she became a mom and saw the need for more robust school music programs. She wanted to ensure that all kids were given the same opportunity in music education and built a program to do so with Santa Monica Music Center. Lana’s commitment to the community has only grown over the years and the community in return have supported her and Santa Monica Music Center during some difficult and trying times.

Cleaning & Covid

Every rental & consignment has gone through our stringent sterilization process

Power of Sound Waves
Ultrasonic cleaning uses cavitation bubbles induced by high frequency pressure (sound) waves to agitate a liquid. The agitation produces high forces on contaminants adhering to substrates like metals, plastics, glass, rubber, and ceramics.
Deep Clean

This action also penetrates blind holes, cracks, and recesses. The intention is to thoroughly remove all traces of contamination tightly adhering or embedded onto solid surfaces.

Non-Toxic

Ultrasonic cleaning uses water, soap and sound to clean unlike the traditional methods of cleaning brass including chemicals such as hydrochloride acid muriatic acid and cyanide.

Contactless Pick Up or Delivery
Drive-thru pick up is available during regular store hours. Delivery is available within a 5 mile radius.

All Lessons Are Virtual

Our school offers private instruction in piano, guitar, drums, violin, reed instruments, brass, flute, recorder and voice. We also offer private instruction in Music Theory and Digital Audio production. We teach all levels of music talent from beginner to professional. Some of the industry’s most successful musicians have studied, or are currently studying with our instructors. Currently we have about 35 teachers, some of whom have been with us for many years.

Group classes are also available for all ages. Our group classes teach rhythm, phrasing, pitch matching and vocabulary concepts, as well as music fundamentals, in a fun, interactive way.
